EXCLUSIVE - Expect PUSSY PUNK!
Get ready a whole new genre of music to be born on Saturday - PUSSY PUNK! What's pussy punk I hear you ask? Read on as Terminal 3 has been able to turn the spotlight onto Hara in an exclusive interview!
Hi, tell us about where in Iceland you live?
We are born in a charming little town just outside ofReykjavik that is called Hveragerði. We still live there.
If you could describe Iceland in one sentence, what would it be?
A nurturing place for the soul.
How did you get interested in the Eurovision Song Contest and what is your favourite all-time Eurovison song?
We have been interested in the ESC since we were children and we have always watched the competition. As for favourite songs, Rakel's favourite is "La det swinge" and Hildur's is "Nina".
Many Eurovision fans will not have heard of you before, how would you describe your style of music?
We play a new musical genre called Pussy-Punk!
What has been the biggest influence on your career so far?
That's a really difficult one to answer as there are so many.... Swan Lee, No Doubt, Ramstein & Metallica.
When you auditioned for Iceland's X-Factor TV programme, did you ever think that you would get to the final?
When the X-Factor thing started, we were both at home with our new born daughters. We were talking about what to do and we decided to follow a dream and give X-Factor a try. We were not thinking about getting to the finals, we only hoped to get through the first stages, but the merry-go-round just kept on turning......
How would you describe your X-Factor experience?
It was very energetic. It was a lot of fund and it was a new experience that took us to a new place in life!
Would you recommend the show for any other artists?
We would recommend it for all artists that have not made the break and are trying to find new opportunities. Dreams can still happen in X-Factor for a lot of people that have a plan, but lack the venue.
Why did you decide to try for the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest?
To let our dream come true. There is just so much fun related to ESC and we just wanted to jump on the us and feel how much fun it can be.
Have you ever entered the Icelandic National Selection for the Eurovision before?
No, this is our first time.
You have a collaboration with Gerard James Borg from Malta who is very famous in the Eurovision Song Contest. How did this collaboration come about?
Gerard and Hallgrimur Oskarsson, the composer of our song, are good friends and they have done some work together. When Hallgrimur had the idea for the song, he contacted Gerard and they worked together on the concept design, use of lyrics and more.
Did you have any influence on the song itself?
Yes, we participated a lot in the arrangement of the song, especially vocal arrangements. That was really fun!
You've described the song as being "pussy-punk", can you describe "pussy-punk" for us?
Hildur owns the definition of Pussy-Punk! It's two rocking girls screaming multi-vocally arranged techno-rock! Lots of power, melody and fun! More pussy than Pink and more punk than Avril Lavigne!
What can your fans expect from your performance on Saturday?
They can expect pussy punk, just as we described it!
Have you watched any of the previous semi-finals? If so, did you like any of the songs?
We like many of the songs, especially from Guðmundur Jónsson. He is a great composer.
And finally, do you have any future plans? Albums, concerts?
First, we wanna play this year's ESC-game. Then we wanna manicure, then pedicure and then we might want to release songs that will be played all around Europe! :-)
A big Terminal 3 thanks go out to the sisters for taking the time to answer our questions and to GJB for organising it for us! We wish you both the best of luck for your contest on Saturday and hope to see you in Belgrade in May 2008!
